Import Tuner's Top Pick for the Castrol SYNTEC Top Car Challenge
If you haven't read about which cars the other magazines are betting hoping will emerge as Castrol SYNTEC's Top Car, do that now. We'll wait, they'll probably need hours to convince you their plans will work, and we only need a few minutes.
Ready? Good. Because Minneapolis, MN's Ryan Gates and his 2008 EVO X is setting the curve in this competition, with all the bases covered. Drag racing? How about a 2,100-pound race machine putting down 500 AMS-inspired horses to four R-compound-clad racing wheels? Road racing and time attack? Same, only add its tuned JRZ Racing TA triple-adjustable remote reservoir coilovers, two-piece Girodisc front and rear brakes, Brembo calipers and AMS lines, and full line of Whiteline suspension goodies. "But," you might be thinking, "What about the street car portion of the competition? How's does 2NR expect to compete an all-out race car on the street?" We wouldn't dream of it. Ryan's EVO doubles as his daily driver during the week.
This isn't just another EVO that some rich kid threw a lot of parts onto. After building a Nissan 350Z and EVO VIII to drive in Super Lap Battle time attacks, and NASA road Race competition, Ryan progressed to - in his opinion - the only platform available that would allow him to dominate the competition, and further built it into what it is now. Every modification and adjustment is the result of real-world testing and data acquisition, not bench racing and on-paper hypothesis. Simply stated, it's a proven killer. Pick up a copy of Import Tuner's August, '09 issue to meet Ryan, and look to the September, '10 issue for complete details of his car.
